Autumn governance training series

Charity trustees are ultimately responsible for the charities which they govern and have a responsibility to run their charity in line with legal requirements and best practice.

We have devised a series of governance training to suit charity trustees who may be at different stages on their term on the board as there are various aspects of governance that trustees may need training on from time to time.

For example, charities with new members on their board may be interested in our early evening training session for ‘new or nearly new trustees’ on the 21 September.

For those charity boards that are wanting to know more about board appraisal and examining how effective their board is, a specially designed session will be delivered by ICSA on 29 September entitled ‘Board evaluation and effectiveness’

NICVA hosts the first in a series of good governance and charity reporting seminars on 3 October which are being orgnanised by the Developing Governance Group and in partnership with the Charity Commission.

‘Essential HR for trustees’ on the 12 October will be of interest to members of the board of charities with employees.  The session will cover various aspects of HR which trustees may be involved in such as line management, recruitment, grievance and disciplinary.

For charities which are also registered as companies, the session on ‘Running a charitable company’ on the 20 October will be of interest to employees and trustees alike who are carrying out the role or duties of the company secretary.

Given the demand for our trustee conference on financial governance earlier in the year we are running a second trustee conference on 8 November on the rules and best practice around managing and raising charity finance.

‘Risk assessment made easy’ on the 24 November is a very practical training session aimed at helping participants understand the risk management process and being able to carry out a risk assessment.
