In this paper Professor Alisa McKay proposes that the discipline of economics has a gender bias towards men; examines the impact this has on current policy agendas and explores the potential and need for change.

This piece was written for the Centre for Economic Empowerment (CEE) and forms part of the CEE publication - Economic Insights - which aims to make a small contribution to broadening debate and making accessible knowledge about economic issues in Northern Ireland and beyond.

Ailsa McKay is Professor of Economics at Glasgow Caledonian University. She is a founding member of both the Scottish Women’s Budget Group and the European Gender Budget Network and is a member of the International Association for Feminist Economics.
