World Suicide Prevention Day

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day and this morning voluntary and community organisations joined families affected by suicide on dawn walk to City Hall. Last night in Twinbrook a vigil was held to remember the six young people who took their own lives in the area over the summer. These are just two of the events happening across Northern Ireland today. On UTV Live last night psychologist Dr Arthur Cassidy remarked on the important role the voluntary and community sector is playing in working alongside statutory providers to tackle this issue. You can watch the interview with Dr Cassidy here http://www.u.tv/UTVMediaPlayer/Default.aspx?vidid=132358
In this short video you can learn more about Lighthouse, one of the many voluntary and community organisations working on suicide prevention and offering support to families affected by suicide. http://www.nicva.org/case-study/offering-vital-support-toughest-times
