Smart solutions in Larne

Larne Community Development Project was formed in February 1997 by a group of people from Larne Borough who were involved in cross community work .

With the concept of promoting the ethos of Community Development in an area of low community infrastructure LCDP were successful in applying for a grant to employ a Community Development Officer and part time administration officer to work with local groups and help them to develop. The organisation is based in the Ledcom Industrial estate and provides a range of information and assistance to local community/voluntary groups within the Larne Borough.

Information is available on the following topics

  • Local Networks
  • How to set up a Group
  • Committee Roles
  • How and where to apply for funding
  • How and where to apply for Charitable Status
  • Action planning

Since it was formed LCDP has provided assistance and support to approximately 120 groups including Children’ Groups, Young people, Women, Disabled, Unemployed, Cultural, Sports and Single Identity groups.

The organisation has been instrumental in attracting funding in excess of £100,000 through a range of sources for local charitable organisations.

LCDP also have worked with various partners over years and more recently were the first organisation to receive three years funding of £10,000 from the Community and Development Health Network to run a series of information sessions on health related issues for local people in Larne in partnership with our local community pharmacist.

Deborah Neill Project Manager of LCDP urges departmental officials and elected politicians to consider when prioritising budgets that

“If our project were to close in the near future, local groups would have no one to give them support, advice and guidance.  This would have serious repercussions on the work that local community groups do and many have stated that their group would probably close.

We are the only support organisation in Larne Borough and it is vital that this project continues”.

In this short video Deborah tells us more about LCDP's work.
