Our Governance and Charity Advice Service offers information and practical help about good governance for charities on a wide range of topics.

Governance and charity advice services

  • Advice - download specialist advice from our Advice Notes or FAQs or talk directly to one of our governance advisors for help in dealing with governance issues or problems
  • Governing documents - drafting and amending governing documents, eg constitutions, memorandum and articles of association
  • Charitable status - help organisations apply for and get recognised as charities
  • Training – we provide specialist governance training
  • Charity law - we provide the sector with the most up to date information on the new Charity regulations from the Charities Act (NI) 2008
  • Companies Act 2006 – we provide information and guidance to charitable companies on the new regulations from the Companies Act 2006
  • Governance reviews - we provide a governance review service which includes an in depth assessment of the governance of an organisation.  Currently only available to group participants on the Community Leadership Programme.  
  • Developing Governance Group - we provide secretariat to the Developing Governance Group which has produced the Code of Good Governance for Northern Ireland and developed an online governance resource with materials mapped to the Code.

We also promote debate and respond to consultations on important issues such as the reform of charity law, company law, reserves, water rates and rates exemptions
