#DataFridays: Practical Data Anonymisation
Data anonymisation has become an increasingly important topic as organisations consider how to maximize the value of their data while minimising risks to privacy and preserving public confidence.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) recognises that when steps have been taken to de-identify personal information, the principles of data protection no longer need to be applied.
By making it impossible or practically difficult to identify a person in a dataset, data controllers and processors are able to use the information in ways that may otherwise not be possible or ethical where identifiable data exists.
This workshop will:
- outline steps towards anonymisation
- cover the relevance of data protection laws
- explain concepts such as pseudonymisation and motivated intruders
- take participants through a practical exercise to anonymise a real dataset
