Have your say on the Bill of Rights
We’re now entering the final weeks of the Bill of Rights consultation period and NICVA is hosting a meeting to help you have your say on what a Bill of Rights should contain.
NICVA, 61 Duncairn Gardens, Belfast BT12 5GB
The seminar, which is part of Vital Links, a project supported by PEACE III Programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body, will take place on 17 February at 2.30pm in NICVA.
Participants will have a chance to explore the latest developments in the Bill of Rights process, what recommendations the NIO have included for consultation and what rights the voluntary and community sector feel should be included in the Bill of Rights.
The meeting will hear from Aideen Gilmore of CAJ and Prof Colin Harvey of QUB before opening for a discussion on the next steps in the Bill’s development against the current political context.
Aideen Gilmore is Deputy Director of the Committee on Administration of Justice (CAJ). CAJ was established in 1981 and is an independent non-governmental organisation which seeks to ensure the highest standards in the administration of justice in Northern Ireland by ensuring that the government complies with its responsibilities in international human rights law.
Dr Colin Harvey is Professor of Human Rights Law and the Head of the Law School at Queen’s University Belfast. He was appointed by the Secretary of State (NI) to the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission in June 2005 and took up his position as a part-time Commissioner from 1 September 2005, he was re-appointed for a further three years in September 2008.
