Health and safety and fire risk assessments
This excellent session at NICVA on 27 May 2010 will give you an awareness of health and safety issues that impact on your premises, as well as an introduction on how to carry out a health and safety and fire risk assessment.
On the importance of Risk Assessment, Paul Mansfield of Marsh says:
"Risk assessment is the smallest unit of safety management. Whatever the size of your organisation, managing safety starts with risk assessment....above all it should be a practical exercise."
Managing risk is about safeguarding your organisation's assets, protecting yourself against lawsuits and ensuring that your organisation can effectively fulfil its objectives. Risk management should help your organisation to identify risk and decide whether there are sufficient safeguards or controls in place to minimise the effects of the risks, or whether such controls or safeguards need to be developed or improved. Risk is not confined simply to the financial affairs of an organisation, or health and safety; it applies to all areas of the charity's operations. Risk identification and management should be built into everything that your organisation does.
