The Reasonable Steps Defence
This is the second in a series of 5 best practice workshops designed to provide senior managers and HR professionals with a succinct overview of the main actions required to provide evidence to potential stakeholders that your organisation is seeking to promote equality of opportunity and a good and harmonious working environment.
Learning Objectives: Participants will have the opportunity to consider:
- A famous Industrial Tribunal decision outlining an example of how an employer can successfully present a ‘reasonable steps defence’ in the event that one of their employees acts in a discriminatory manner.
- The key equality indicators for promoting equality of opportunity and for promoting a good and harmonious working environment [Unified Employment Guide Chapters 4 and 5].
- The benefits of developing an Employment Equality Plan and mapping it against the supporting Equality Champion Seminar Programme for the Voluntary Sector.
Associated Outcomes: Participating employers will also be given the opportunity to access a one to one policy review consultation with an employment equality specialist and a tailored programme of both role specific training for key staff functions and HR specialist best practice workshops.
