As a follow-up to our last successful members' day on human resources and finance issues, NICVA has organised an opportunity for you to update yourself on recent employment legislation and its implications on your organisation's terms and conditions of employment.
This day will also include information and advice on:
- basic accounting procedures,
- budgets,
- national insurance contributions, and
- statutory payments.
The sessions will run concurrently in the morning and afternoon, so you can sign up for the morning, the afternoon, or both. The morning session runs from 10.15am to 12.45pm and the afternoon session runs from 1.30pm to 4.00pm.
Session1 - Finance issues
The session will provide an overview of basic accounting procedures and the need for keeping accurate records. It will also provide you with a brief outline of the type of records that your organisation should maintain such as cheque journals, cash book, etc.
We will look at the different types of statutory payments and how these affect your organisation such as:
- SSP,
- statutory maternity and paternity pay, and
- national insurance contributions

Session 2 - Human resources issues
Recruitment and selection, employment statutory requirements and best practice. You may be aware of employment legislation but do you apply this appropriately to your recruitment processes?
This session will identify the main pieces of employment legislation and statutory requirements and allow you to assess the implications on your organisation's recruitment and selection process. It will also provide you with the opportunity to explore best practice standards for the recruitment and selection of staff.
