Ligoniel Improvement Association is a community based organisation whose aim is to "initiate, facilitate and resource community participation in the improvement of Ligoniel".
Responsible to:
The Director of the LIA, project line manager, and the Housing Sub-Committee of the Ligoniel Village Regeneration Partnership.
Duties and responsibilities
- To work closely with the residents and groups in the Ligoniel area on housing related issues.
- To assist them in identifying problems and issues in the village.
- To support residents in setting up task groups to tackle these issues and problems.
- To provide information and advice on housing related issues to local residents and maintain confidential records.
- To work in identifying resources, both voluntary and statutory, to support and assist local residents in tackling problems of poverty and advantage.
- To coordinate relevant resources and services in Ligoniel, and in the wider community, to meet the needs identified by the project.
- To involve the community as fully as possible in the implementation of the Housing Regeneration Proposals.
- To network with relevant agencies in the implementation of recognised housing issues, e.g., estate management, ECM's, Revenue, Replacement.
- To facilitate the Housing Sub-Committee of the Ligoniel Village Regeneration Project on the implementation of the recognised and ongoing actions.
- To act as a support and resource for the residents of Ligoniel on issues concerning housing and the housing environment.
- To liaise with the housing providers / developers on behalf of the residents.
- To represent the residents of Ligoniel on various committees established to tackle issues on housing and the housing environment. eg district six consumer panel, North Belfast Housing and Environmental Working Group.
- Work with locals and NIHE on issues specific to Ligoniel contained within the North Belfast Housing Strategy.
- To establish and facilitate a residents group.
- To work across the various projects of the LIA to promote integration of services.
- To compile reports, evaluations and articles in regard to housing and regeneration.
- To network with other community organisations to advance and promote the work of the LIA and its regeneration initiatives.
General duties
- To promote the project through all mediums ie flyers, press releases, interviews etc.
- To undertake job related training if required.
- To participate in applying for funding if and when applicable.
- To attend meetings and conferences etc as directed.
- To assist residents on working with NIHE on issues contained within the Ligoniel Village Housing Study.
- To undertake such other tasks as may be required by the Director and the Management Committee.
Personal Specifications
Essential
- A qualification in community development or related field.
- The successful candidate will have the ability to work on their own initiative while at the same time successfully meet the required targets of the programme.
- At least two years experience in a community setting.
- Knowledge of the private, statutory, voluntary and community sectors.
- Experience in working on housing based issues.
- Working knowledge of housing legislation.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the Ligoniel community.
- Good organisation and presentation skills.
- Good inter-personal and communication skills.
- Counselling skills.
- IT skills.
- Experience in organising workload to achieve priorities and objectives.
Duration: one and a half years. (Subject to two months probation)
Salary: scale £16,515 - £18,582 per annum. (NJC pt 21 - NJC PT25)
Hours of Work: 37½ hours per week, including evening work
Holidays: 24 days plus statutory public holidays
