This project will seek to strengthen and expand the Ligoniel Village Regeneration (LVRP) initiative, linking changes in healthy living to broader social, physical, ecomonic, educational and environmental improvements in the lives and circumstances of local residents.
It will be seeking to implement an integrated approach to improving health and social wellbeing in Ligoniel, which will be additional and complementary to existing services whilst developing new initiatives in this field.
Additionally the project will seek to strengthen and protect the rich biodiversity of the surrounding Ligoniel area to enable it to act as a valuable resource for the wellbeing of the local residents.
- To explore with local people the links between improved environmental and recreational facilities and improved health and sense of wellbeing.
- To increase understanding among community groups of the impact that policies and practices of agencies, to do with the environment and recreation, may have on health and wellbeing.
- To explore, as part of a team, the health and social service needs of the Ligoniel community and to monitor and access improvements in meeting these needs.
- To support and assist the appropriate subcommittees on the Ligoniel Village Regeneration Partnership.
- To encourage local people to actively participate in recreational and environmental pursuits.
- To publicise the work of the regeneration partnership and the importance of the local environment and its potential for health and recreation.
- To establish, implement and coordinate appropriate systems to monitor and evaluate, at regular intervals, the outcomes of the process of communication against the agreed objectives in order to influence future development of the strategy.
- To provide direction and support in relation to health promotion to local groups and organisations and in particular to the Community Health Forum.
- To work as part of a health team to address the needs of Ligoniel.
- To enable local groups to develop their confidence in order that they may more fully articulate the health and social concerns of local communities and to take increased responsibility for their own health needs at personal, group and community level.
- To establish and maintain mechanisms, set up by the LIA and NOF, to monitor and evaluate the success of the project.
- To undertake job related training if required.
- To participate in applying for funding as and when applicable.
- To attend meetings etc as directed.
- To carry out such other tasks as may be required by the director of the LIA.
- To increase understanding among community groups of the surrounding environment and the Biodiversity it supports.
- To secure funding for Environmental and Health programmes.
- To work closely with Environmental statuary bodies.
