Getting the message out

A new Information and Communications Unit has been created at NICVA to improve the flow of information and give an even better service to voluntary and community organisations.

"Member surveys have shown a high level of satisfaction with the material we publish and the way we send it to them but we wanted to look systematically at how we could do things even better,”

said Paula Reynolds, director of member services at NICVA.

The Information and Communications Unit will be responsible for ensuring we send high quality and authoritative information to members and many others such as the media and decision makers.

With the ending of a printed SCOPE magazine, we will be putting a lot more emphasis on the NICVA websites. These give us an opportunity to respond faster in a world where speedy communications is essential.

However, NICVA News will continue to be printed and sent out to all members 10 times per year.

"Part of NICVA’s role is to challenge government, agencies, councils and our own sector to look at important issues and to make changes where needed. This role will be carried out on the www.nicva.org and www.communityni.org websites as well as in our work generally,”

Got a story?

We'd like to encourage people to - and remind everybody that they can - submit their own news items, events, job vacancies and publications to communityni.org. It involves filling in a simple to use online form and it's free.

The three-strong unit will also help the wider voluntary and community sector to improve its communications. For example, we will soon launch a media guide and media directory and will explore creative ways of promoting better relations between the sector and the media.

Paul McGill is manager of the Information and Communications Unit, John McCormick is information officer and Fiona Veitch is web editor.
