NICVA's response to the EQIA on the reform of water and sewerage services

NICVA's response to the Department for Regional Development’s Integrated Impact Assessment of its proposals for the Reform of Water and Sewerage Services in Northern Ireland.

NICVA’s main argument with the Department for Regional Development’s Integrated Impact Assessment of its proposals for the reform of water and sewerage services is that it does not offer protection to the most vulnerable members of society.

In a critique of the equality, new TSN, human rights and health assessments, NICVA calls for the inclusion of universal metering to encourage water conservation and a progressive charging policy that protects the most vulnerable. Since the proposals affect every citizen, community and business we argue that more time and work are needed to take account of widespread concerns and
unanswered questions.
