Response to location of immigrant detainees

NICVA's response to the consultation on the location of immigrant detainees.

NICVA opposes the decision of the Prison Service to continue the discredited policy of imprisoning asylum seekers, despite the recommendations of the cross-party Northern Ireland Affairs Committee and the Steele Report, which was commissioned by the Northern Ireland Office (NIO).

NICVA has urged the NIO to consult widely with the key voluntary groups, to open discussions with the Home Office to consider non-custodial alternatives and to end this nightmare for asylum seekers.
