Response to Promotion of Food to Children

NICVA's response to the consultation on the promotion of food to children.

Anxiety about unhealthy food is high on the political agenda. The Food Standards Agency plans to change the way goods are promoted to children by producing guidance for schools, the food industry, the Advertising Standards Authority and broadcasters. NICVA supports these proposals but wants the agency to go further.

NICVA argues that it should consider underlying reasons for unhealthy eating including the expense of improving children’s diets, the role of the road lobby, supermarket chains, out-of-town shopping centres, farming methods and cynicism caused by mixed messages.
