NICVA's response to the latest proposals from the Northern Ireland Commission for Human Rights (NIHRC) in ‘Progressing a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland; An Update’.

NICVA supports a strong and inclusive Bill of Rights for everyone in Northern Ireland, the indivisibility of rights and the inclusion of social and economic rights to underscore the principles of equality and human dignity.

In our view, however, there is not enough cross-community support to carry the proposed Bill through the legislative process and we argue that the impending appointment of new commissioners could present an opportunity to reconvene the roundtable of political parties with the participation of civic society, clarify the Bill and create support for the process.
