Young at Art is the brains behind one of Belfast's most charming events for children, the annual Belfast Children's Festival. This is your chance to be part of the magic as Alice Jackson, Audience Development Officer at Young at Art, calls for volunteers and introduces the 2005 festival programme.

Family audience This year the Belfast Children’s Festival, run by Young at Art, takes place from 24-30 May 2005.

Young at Art is a professional youth arts organisation dedicated to producing an international arts festival for children and young people from 0 – 14 years.

This year’s festival takes the theme of the senses with loads for kids to see, hear, touch, taste and even smell. The programme balances participatory events with professional performance events from indigenous and international artists. There’ll be over 180 events taking place, including storytelling, workshops, theatre and puppetry.

Highlights include a performance by the Viennese Vegetable Orchestra, a play of ‘The Little Mermaid’ in a swimming pool and the ‘Sensor Shack’ in Botanic Gardens.

Kaleidoscope BoyThere’s something for children of all ages to enjoy, and even the teeniest tots are catered for.

Call for volunteers

The Belfast Children’s Festival is now recruiting volunteers for the festival in May 2005. Volunteers will receive training in health and safety, child protection and customer care. If you’re interested, please call Telephone Number 028 9023 0660 or email Email Address louise@youngatart.co.uk .

About Young at Art

The annual Belfast Children’s Festival is supported by a year-round outreach programme across Northern Ireland. This year an online resource for primary school teachers will be launched entitled 'Tool Box for Teachers'.

Young at Art is a registered charity and is revenue funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Belfast City Council. Additional support is raised through Lottery funding, charitable trusts, sponsorship and other government agencies and departments.
