An update on how the Bill is progressing through parliament.
The Company Law Reform Bill was introduced to the House of Lords on 1 November 2005 and brought forward to the House of Commons on 24 May 2006.
The Bill received Royal Assent on 7 November 2006. The Companies (Audit, Investigations and Community Enterpise) Act 2004 can now be extended to Northern Ireland which will see the introduction of the Community Interest Company (CIC). It is envisaged that CICs, which has been designed for social economy enterprises that want to use their profits and assets for the public good, will be introduced in Northern Ireland by the end of 2006.
