A NICVA document to assist voluntary and community organisations to prepare their responses to this important consultation.

NICVA has released a briefing paper to inform the debate on the consultation document ‘A modern regional policy for the United Kingdom’, published by the UK government.

The purpose of the consultation is to discuss the UK’s negotiating position prior to engagement with the other member states of the European Union on the future of European Regional Policy and the use of Structural Funds.

This is an important debate for voluntary and community organisations and Northern Irelandas a whole. We have until 4 July 2003 to decipher, explore and weigh our options.

NICVA will engage with government over the period to tease out these issues. We will consult with and advise voluntary and community groups on the paper and submit a considered response.

NICVA’s Executive Committee has already begun to discuss its position on the possibility of a third Special Support Programme for Peace and Reconciliation and believes that it is both necessary and desirable but not in the mould of Peace II.
