Factsheet 1: A new partnership for cohesion - May 2004
Summary: a synopsis of third report on economic and social cohesion produced by the European Commission. The report looks at the impact of the structural funds for 2000 – 2006 period and outlines proposed plans for 2007-2013. It is concerned with all of the structural funds which the Commission administers, but does not apply to any new monies to support peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland, known as Peace II+. The final decision on proposals for the next seven years of structural funding is due to be made at the end of 2005.

Factsheet 2: The Lisbon Strategy - May 2004
Summary: It is an EU tradition to name important treaties and agreements after the city in which they are signed such as the Treaty of Amsterdam and the Nice Treaty. At the 2000 European Council meeting, during the Portuguese presidency, the Lisbon Strategy was conceived and ratified. The strategy is a high level agreement between all Member States to work towards ensuring that the EU becomes the world's most competitive knowledge based economy by 2010 with more and better jobs and social inclusion.
