Roisin Kelly, NICVA's Training Officer, gives a progress report on the Level One Management Development Programme.
The third NICVA Management Programme kicked off with a residential on 24 April at the Rural College in Draperstown.This time around thirteen managers from a wide range of voluntary and community organisations are participating in this widely recognised and accredited programme.
During the next ten weeks, first line managers will gain knowledge and skills in areas such as leadership, strategic planning, conflict handling and negotiation, financial management and performance management.
Feedback about the programme to date has been very positive and already managers are showing evidence of applying their learning to their workplace.
“Sessions are particularly useful, demonstrating professional standards in staff management with an emphasis on the primacy of staff, and that the strategy for effective management begins and ends with people seeking improvement and involving everyone - managers and workers, ” Trainee January 2004 programme.
“I now have a much more confident and assertive staff member as a result of the programme, who is an asset to my team, ” Line Manager October 2003 programme.
The next NICVA Management Development Programme begins on Friday 1 October 2004.The programme will be held in the Dungannon / Cookstown area, making it particularly accessible for those working in the west of Northern Ireland. Deadline for applications is Wednesday 8 September. As places are limited, it is advisable to apply as early as possible.
