Important notice about PCI Consulting's 'Charity Register'

NICVA Member Organisations have been making a number of enquiries about PCI Consulting Limited’s ‘register of approved charities’.

This is an initiative by a private company for which fees are charged, it is NOT a government or statutory initiative and therefore does NOT have any regulatory authority as its name might imply. NICVA does NOT support this ‘register’.

Furthermore, there is currently no official register of charities for Northern Ireland. However this situation is due to change. As the sector will be aware, the Department for Social Development (DSD) carried out a consultation on the Review of Charities Administration and Legislation in Northern Ireland in 2005, and the subsequent draft legislation should be ready for consultation in May of this year. Two of the key proposals to emerge from this will be the establishment of a Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, together with the introduction of the Register of Charities for Northern Ireland.

NICVA will keep you up to date with the latest developments in charity law and will be organising workshops in conjunction with DSD’s Charity Branch on the draft legislation.
