Protecting our marine wildlife
NICVA's next Environmental policy forum will "seas" the opportunity to raise awareness of marine issues.
Impact
A new National Trust report has revealed that sea level rises of up to a metre this century will affect some of Northern Ireland's most important tourist and wildlife areas, including Strangford Lough and the Giant's Causeway. This will have a direct effect on Northern Ireland's marine ecosystems - an issue that will be covered at the next Environmental policy forum on Wednesday 5 March.
Tour
The meeting will begin at 9.45am on Wednesday 5 March with a tour of the RSPB nature reserve at Belfast Lough. Returning to NICVA, members of the Marine Task Force will brief the Forum on the progress of the Marine Bill and other related issues such as marine spatial planning, marine management organisation and marine nature conservation.
Policy forum
The Environmental policy forum was formed in May 2005 and is chaired by Sue Christie from Northern Ireland Environment Link.
The forum meets two to three times a year and its aim is to encourage greater participation and enhance the capacity of the voluntary and community sector to engage more proactively in environmental policy issues, influence policy development and make policy responses.
