The next meeting of the Men's policy forum will take place on Tuesday 4th November 2008 in NICVA at 10.30am. Attendance at the forum is open to anyone with an interest in the development of work with men from a policy perspective.

Patricia Carey will be the guest speaker. Patricia is Head of Policy in the Equality, Rights and Social Need Division of OFMDFM. She has responsibility for policy on gender and sexual orientation, and for the Central Anti-Poverty Unit and for policy and advice to departments on Section 75 and human rights.

Forum history

A lot of people who are active in the men's sector find themselves working on the margins without a supportive policy context for their endeavours. For many years now, The Men's Project and other groups have been seeking to raise the issues faced by men with service providers and decision-makers.

In March 2008 NICVA convened and hosted an exploratory meeting to look at the need for and remit of a Men's policy forum. At this meeting it was agreed that a forum should be established to enhance the capacity of men's organisations to make policy responses and to participate in effective policy development. The forum is chaired by Colin Fowler from The Men's Project and Michael McKenna from Youth Action.
