Europe Direct@NICVA, a new information service on all aspects of life in the European Union has been launched by NICVA. If you work within the voluntary and community sector, you can use the new service as a 'one stop shop' to order publications, posters and other resources, enquire about specific areas of EU directives and developments that impact on your work, while discovering more about how the EU works and the funding and other support it can offer the sector.

Welcoming guests to the launch Seamus McAleavey, Chief Executive of NICVA said:

Our sector has a long standing interest in all things European and we are pleased to be able to offer this service to our members. We are also pleased to be one of the four centres in Northern Ireland who are themselves part of a network of centres in the 25 Member States and look forward to working with our local and international colleagues in bridging the gap between what happens in Brussels and what happens in Belfast

The new service is based around an information point in the foyer of the NICVA conference facility where you may view a small selection of the resources available, browse the internet and get 'one to one' advice on any area of developments at a European level.

Lisa McElherron, Public Affairs Manager at NICVA said

We know this is going to be a great resource for the sector. We now have access to innumerable information resources that will be of use to the sector and we can take the hassle out of ordering them for our members. The EU leads the way in areas such as inclusion and the fight against poverty, environmental and sustainable development, workers rights, gender equality and of course there are numerous sources of EU funding available to the sector. I would encourage people to contactl us and arrange an appointment or have a look at the info point the next time they are in the NICVA building for a conference or event.

Speaking at the launch Eddie McVeigh, Head of European Commission Office in NI said

We are delighted that NICVA has taken up the challenge of demystifying the European Union. OFM/DFM have recently released the ‘Taking our place in Europe’ strategy for Northern Ireland and the launch of Europe Direct@NICVA takes Europe a little bit closer to us today.
