NICVA's members get a training day on communications from our resident gurus.

What are the principles of good communication?
Find out on Wednesday, 11 October 2006.
Learn how to communicate sharply and hit the right media targets. These sessions offer practical tips on how to approach the press/media, how to put together a newsletter, both electronic and hardcopy, and how to write for the web.
The sessions will look at style and content, attracting and keeping an audience, working with mailing lists and there will be an opportunity to try out some skills for yourself.
There's a choice of one of the following morning or afternoon sessions:
Morning session 10.15am - 12.45pm
Afternoon session 1.30pm - 4.00pm
Both sessions will be repeated in the afternoon which will give everyone a chance to attend both.
Session 1: Hitting the media targets
Content: Identifying key messages and target audiences; writing an effective press release; contacting the media; preparing for interviews.
Speaker: Paul McGill, Communications Officer, NICVA.
Session 2: Spreading the word
Content: The 'non-techie' guide to putting together and disseminating an enewsletter, style, content and editing. The session will look briefly at how to produce a print newsletter and offer some hints on writing for the web.
Speaker: John McCormick, Information Officer, NICVA.
