Community groups can approach The Science Shop office with specific research requests or with general research ideas. Research Event
The Edge or the Precipice, the next event in the Think Tank series. The Cresco Trust Ltd and Incore are presenting the Think Tank series as a forum to debate vitalissues facing the voluntary and community sector.
The Edge or the Precipice will take place on Tuesday 8th November. It will address an issue of vital importance for thevoluntary and community sector. The sector is aware that a new funding climate means that the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland is facing a period of real change. Points of discussion:
- Is the choice between living on the edge to break new ground or the financial precipice?
- Is the future going to be defined by pursuing mission or chasing the money?
- What does the future hold in a new funding climate?
These questions are vital to every individual and organisation within the voluntary and community sector. The keynote speaker will be Colin Stutt, who needs no introduction. As an independent economic and public policy consultant he has worked extensively on issues relating to the social economy in Northern Ireland, the European Union and North America. He is also well known as the author of a major government policy review of funding for the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland.
To meaningfully reflect on this issue Marie Taylorfrom The Cambridge Business School will facilitate the event. The venue will be The Great Hall, University of Ulster (Magee campus).

What is Community NI?
Community NI has been developed by the
Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) to promote the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland. The website was officially launched in April 2005.
Publish your information
The principle behind the site is that every community and voluntary organisation will be signposted and have the opportunity to publish their information, whether that be a
newsletter, press release, job advertisement or event. Community NI aims to be the first central online source of information about the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland. It gives voluntary and community organisations the chance to promote themselves on the internet and to share their resources and expertise.
