The Department for Social Development has released its research into the work of support organisations within the voluntary and community sector, completed by Deloitte in February 2007.

The Government's response to the Task Force on Resourcing the Voluntary and Community Sector, Positive Steps, confirmed that DSD would lead the development of a strategy for support services which would address benchmarks and performance standards for support organisations to help ensure consistency of service provision.

Research

Beginning with the strategic context, the research outlines the core functions of support services, principles governing support services, information from interviews with organisations providing support to the sector, and the opinions of agencies which fund support work.

You can access the Deloitte report and accompanying papers here.

Support Services Strategy

Following the release of these background and scoping papers it is hoped that a draft of the Support Services strategy will be with the Minister for Social Development by the summer. This will allow for consideration by the Executive and a subsequent public consultation to take place in September and October respectively.

NICVA research

NICVA also commissioned a report proposing a framework for support services in the sector. The research was undertaken by Blueprint Development Consultancy and released in January 2007.
