Jump on a bus to help build tomorrow’s world today. That’s the theme of NICVA’s annual conference this Friday 7 December. This conference aims to put sustainability at the top of all our agendas. Equally you can have a chance to challenge the ‘green claptrap’. We’re confident you’ll find it is a case of “win for you and win for the globe”.
Inspirational speakers will include Jerry Greenfield of the world famous Ben & Jerry’s ice cream company; Alice Owen the UK Sustainable Development Commissioner and Kenny Boyd, who hit the headlines recently for his amazing swim from Ballycastle to Rathlin.
As well as the speakers and workshops there will be a fantastic range of exhibitions and displays including an intriguing ‘smoothie bike’, a carbon footprint calculator, a showing of Al Gore’s thought provoking film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’, a truly ‘rubbish’ sculpture from Belfast City Council and much more.
NICVA is taking the big step of making the conference carbon neutral and will be offsetting any carbon used. The annual report, presented to the AGM on the same day, has been produced by a carbon neutral printing company.
We will keep the paperwork to a minimum. The tea and coffee we will be serving is Fair Trade. The food for lunch will be locally produced with as few food miles as possible. We will be using video conferencing for the first time for some of our speakers.
Participants can do their bit by coming on the bus – the 1D Metro service passes our offices at Duncairn Gardens – or by train to the nearby York Street station.
