This month's round up

Return of the Assembly

With the summer drawing to a close -- what summer you may ask? -- autumn brings the return of the Northern Ireland Assembly. NICVA took advantage of the recess to catch up with elected representatives and talk to them about funding and the impact of public sector efficiencies on voluntary and community organisations. A recent poll on the Community NI website has found that only 10% of respondents felt that their local representatives had a good understanding of the voluntary and community sector. This highlights a need for better engagement between organisations and the Assembly and NICVA is running a number of training iniatives to do just that over the next few months.

Training opportunities

With the kids back at school, we too, have a raft of opportunities to update our skills. NICVA's Training Calendar is up and running again with its essential mix of not to be missed courses, while another Members' Day on 7 October 2008 brings practical skills in managing our internal and external working relationships. So, whether it's managing conflict, managing communications, managing performance or managing your committee, there's a workshop to suit you.

Featured member

NICVA News is keen to profile a Featured Member organisation each month. In this issue the spotlight falls on YouthAction Northern Ireland, which has chosen to highlight its new learning and resource centre.

Save the Network

The Northern Ireland Anti-Poverty Network is calling for your support. After more than 20 years in operation, the organisation is facing closure due to funding pressures. Please sign up to the Save the Network Campaign at www.niapn.org.
