This month's round up
This month sees good news on the anti-poverty front with the government's commitment to a new strategy that aims to eradicate poverty by the year 2020. However, the Secretary of State did suggest that the sector keeps alert to government's delivery on the strategy when he said, "I hope you will be a constant thorn in the side of government departments, not in a negative way but in a way that ensures we do not fall short of the mark."
NICVA has been making great strides in its online services with the launch of a new online donation facility for charities and the development of a new skills website CommunitySkills NI. Also this month NICVA launches a new scheme, Preparing for Community Planning, in association with Community Technical Aid which will offer training and other resources to help groups with community planning.
A key consultation to respond to this month is the Review of Support Services, as the proposed new councils and boundary changes are likely to have a major impact on how the voluntary and community sector operates.
Are you 'good for a quote'? If so and you'd like to make yourself available to the media for comment, why not add your name to our new media register launched this month, which aims to help journalists find the right person in the sector to talk to.
Finally, don't forget to check out the funding pages to see if you can find a new source of income to give your group a boost before Christmas. Season's greetings and best wishes from the NICVAnews team.
