Foyle Search and Rescue was set up in June 1993 a compassionate community response to the alarming number of deaths both by suicide and by accident in and around the river Foyle area of Derry. FSR have taken on a proactive role of suicide prevention and are committed to searching the river in the event of a person entering until a body is recovered the operational side of the organisation is made up entirely of volunteers who actively patrol the bridges and the banks of the river in all weathers on identified high risk periods being Thursday Friday and Saturday nights between the hours of 9.30pm to 3.30am to intervene and prevent any potenitally suicidal person from entering the river.
