Mission
The IEF was established in 1992 with money from the European Union Structural Funds, the Department of Education NI, the Nuffield Foundation and the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust. The IEF is an independent fundraising and grant-making charitable body which aims to make integration, not separation, the norm in our education system. The Fund supports the continued growth of integrated school places and encourages all schools to provide their pupils with the opportunity to engage meaningfully with children from different cultural and religious backgrounds. The IEF raises its own funds to make grants and loans to develop schools for the whole community by expanding existing integrated schools, supporting the transformation of non-integrated schools to integrated status or building new integrated schools. In addition, the Fund seeks to support all schools, integrated or not, which want to offer their pupils opportunities to address and celebrate cultural and religious diversity.
