Charities working across borders
NICVA, in conjunction with The Wheel, held the first Charities working across borders conference today, Tuesday 30 June 2009.
The conference was attended by over 90 charities and auditors from North and South of the border, who came to listen to guest speakers such as Professor Gareth Morgan from Sheffield Hallam University, Ivan Cooper, The Wheel, Nancy Fancott from SCVO, Elizabeth Chamberlain from NCVO and Seamus Murray, Charity Commission of Northern Ireland Secretariat. The event was also attended by the new Chief Charity Commissioner Tom McGrath.
The conference covered the practical realities of charities working in more than one jurisdiction, hearing from the academic world and the regulation in practice in Scotland and Wales.
Having given some food for thought, the conference moved into a round table discussion on some of the issues and concerns facing charities in light of the developments in regulations on the Island of Ireland.
Chairing the event, Paula Reynolds, Director of Member Services, commented:
"NICVA was delighted with the number of charities represented at today's event, which is hoped to be the first of many."
More detail on the round table discussions and feedback will be added here when it becomes available.
