The recent introduction of charity legislation and the establishment of a Charity Regulator in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland have heightened interest and concerns about the implications of regulations on charities. In particular the charities that work in more than one jurisdiction are concerned that they may face further complications and requirements.

In responding to these concerns the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA) has got together with the umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector from the South of Ireland, The Whhttp://old.communityni.org/_admin/siteBuilder/pages/edit.cfm?website_key=12&Page_Key=78931&structure_key=0#eel, to host a conference on Tuesday 30 June . The Conference will examine potential issues that charities may face when working across borders.

Seamus McAleavey, Chief Executive of NICVA stated:

'It is anticipated that this will be the first in an ongoing series of annual conferences which will allow cross-border charities to receive information on the most current developments affecting them, discuss the implications of regulations; and provide a platform from which to gather feedback which the supporting agencies will take back to the responsible governments and regulators."

Key speakers at the event include Prof Gareth Morgan, Sheffield Hallam University who has carried out comparative analysis on Charity regulation in Britain and Ireland; Nancy Fancott, Policy Officer, SCVO giving an insight on how Scottish charities have managed with the relatively recent introduction of the Scottish Regulator; Elizabeth Chamberlain, Policy Support Officer, NCVO giving an insight of English and Welsh charities which have been regulated for some time now; and Seamus Murray, Charity Commission of Northern Ireland Secretariat who will look at the key provisions and implementation of the Charities Act (NI) 2008.

Registration is now closed.
