Management training reaching out to voluntary and community sector groups
Ten participants from seven organisations across Northern Ireland have commenced the Institute of Management and Leadership (ILM) level 3 in First line management as part of the Reaching Communities NI Support and Development Programme funded by The Big Lottery Fund, delivered by NICVA.
This is a ten week programme that has been designed specifically for the voluntary and community sector. It includes current management theories and practical tools and gives an overview of management providing a stepping stone to other qualifications. The aim of the course is to provide the knowledge and skills required to manage effectively in a voluntary or community sector organisation and to enhance personal effectiveness.
To date sixty-four people have participated in the First Line management programme as part of this Big Lottery Fund support programme for Reaching Communities grant holders over the last three years. Four members of staff from Shankill Women’s centre successfully completed the programme last year and the Centre Manager Betty Carlisle commented:
“It has enabled me to delegate on a wider scale thus enabling me to pursue a more strategic role in taking the organisation forward. The staff who participated operate in a more efficient and effective manner and their attitude to their work has become more professional."
