DU Dance (NI)
DU Dance (NI) is a dance development company based in the Cathedral Quarter, Belfast, the company works across Northern Ireland, the island of Ireland, the UK and internationally.
Its aim is to introduce young people to dance and related creative activities, and to advocate dance as a tool for facilitating personal and social development.
Its vision is to advance dance as an art form, build community connections and foster tolerance and respect.
The company offers a range of small and large scale contemporary dance workshops and performances, across communities which may have limited or no dance provision and with people experiencing social exclusion, challenging traditional views of the relevance and value of dance. Performance projects include inter-generational, cross-community and inter-cultural work. The company is committed to building new audiences together with training and sharing skills.
Three youth engagement dance groups currently operate in Ballymoney, Belfast and Dungannon for young people aged 11-24 years, with weekly term-time sessions leading onto performance opportunities. DU Dance operates an inclusive policy of participation, without audition or preconception of ability.
