Mallusk Enterprise Park is the local enterprise agency serving primarily the Newtownabbey area of BT36 and BT37. The organisation has a Vision ‘To play a leading role in driving an entrepreneurial culture in Northern Ireland’, and is committed to operating by the Values of Integrity, Professionalism, Innovation, Dynamism and Enthusiasm. MEP has adopted the mission ‘To promote, support and develop enterprise and wealth creation at every stage of the entrepreneurial journey’.

Established in 1992, MEP operates from a purpose built business park on Mallusk Drive, offering 50,000 square feet of workspace and office accommodation to more than 60 tenant businesses and their 300 employees. MEP provides employment to 9 employees (2 full-time and 7 part-time), with its operations overseen by a multi-disciplinary Board of Directors.

As well as offering property solutions to SMEs, the organisation provides a range of business development services to support those considering starting a business, those that are already in business as well as businesses seeking to grow.

Services

Pre-Start & Start-Up Support Programmes and Activities

ENI Exploring Enterprise Programme (EEP) – targeted at individuals aged 16+ that are currently unemployed/economically inactive or working/studying for less than 16 hours per week and are not participating on any other government funded programme. Participants will receive training and one-to-one mentoring support with the opportunity to work towards a CCEA Level 1 Qualification in Understanding Business Enterprise.

Northern Ireland Business Start Up Programme (NIBSUP) – providing support to individuals interested in starting their own business, participants will receive an initial ‘lead in’ assessment to provide them with advice and identify their needs; financial and business planning support with a business advisor; production of a business plan; and access to up to 4 workshops per year.

Antrim & Newtownabbey Social Enterprise Programme (ANSEP) – providing support to individuals or groups interested in starting up or growing a social enterprise. Funded by ANBC, ANSEP is delivered in conjunction with Social Enterprise NI and offers one-to-one mentoring, access to workshops, networking opportunities and access to a bursary to progress their business idea.

ENI Start-Up Loan Fund – loans of up to £25,000 are available repayable over 1-5 years at a fixed rate of 6.2% APR. Staff will assist with the completion of the loan application form and provide up to 15 hours of mentoring support in the 12 months following the award of loans.

Enterprise Awareness Activities – MEP delivers a range of enterprise awareness activities in support of the Programmes above. This will include engaging with other enterprise support and employability organisations to make their clients aware of self-employment as an option.

Business Growth & Support Programmes and Activities

ANBC Outstanding Performance Through Individual Mentoring and Leadership (OPTIMAL) Business Support & Growth Programme – provides tailored mentoring and support to micro and small businesses that are seeking to grow. MEP business development staff provide mentoring and manage the allocation of mentors and administration for OPTIMAL.

Mid and East Antrim Amplify Programme – MEP staff act as mentors on the ‘Enterprise and Entrepreneurship’ strand of this programme, an economic initiative supporting businesses in the MEAD Council area.

NI Small Business Loan Fund – funded by Invest NI, this Loan Fund provides an alternative source of lending to bank finance and is managed by UCIT and ENI.

Networking Events – providing an opportunity for SME’s to meet in an informal setting, MEP offers events such as Business over Brunch, a bi-monthly free business networking event featuring guest speakers that will share their expertise on a chosen topic.

Property (Development/Management) & Conferencing Provision

Workspace Accommodation – offering 50,000 square feet of workspace and office accommodation to SMEs on flexible terms allowing for an ‘easy in, easy out’ approach. Conferencing and Meeting Facilities – a range of conference and meeting facilities are available to hire at competitive rates and utilised by businesses and organisations from the local area.
