North Belfast Foodbank
North Belfast Foodbank is part of the Trussell Trust network and was established in 2013 to help the community of North Belfast who find themselves in short-term crisis eg. benefit delays or changes, homelessness, domestic violence, sickness.
North Belfast Foodbank works with front-line professionals who identify the needs of their clients/patients and refer the person for access to the Foodbank by way of a voucher system. This system ensures that those who access the foodbank have a genuine need and ensures accountability.
Food is donated by churches, businesses and schools in the area as well as the Trussell Trust Partnership with Tesco. As well as food the Foodbank is dependent on donations from the public/businesses and grants in order to run as effectively as possible.
The Foodbank is operated by volunteers from across North Belfast who give their time to work in the foodbank reception room, food bank store or in the warehouse.
North Belfast Foodbank welcomes clients and volunteers from across the religious and cultural divides.
Services
Clients referred to the foodbank by front-line professionals are entitled to three days worth of food according to the size of the family unit. This can be repeated up to three times.
While in the foodbank the clients are offered tea/coffee and biscuits and have time to chat to the volunteers. The Foodbank has literature available in order that the client can be access further help if required.
The foodbank gives the opportunity for persons who wish to volunteer in the community and also young people in school who are working towards 'service awards'.
Opening hours
The Foodbank is open to clients holding red vouchers only on Tuesday 2.30pm to 4.00pm and Thursday 6.30pm to 8.00pm.
The warehouse is open for food donations on a Monday evening between 6.30pm - 7.00pm - see website for warehouse address.
