Connecting Older People - Latest news

Training

NICVA is delighted to promote training opportunities available from other voluntary and community sector groups for those working with and on behalf of older people.

Róisín Bradley, Tri - Age Coordinator

Springfield Charitable Association launched its Tri-Age west Belfast project on Friday 20 April 2012 in the Farset International.

A new outreach project designed to help the tens of thousands of older people across Northern Ireland who are actively engaged with mental health services launched at the Long Gallery, Stormont on 26 April.

Recently, NICVA's Information Officer Seana McAuley designed and delivered a data protection training session to groups funded by The BIG Lottery Reaching Out: Connecting Older People programme.

Tuesday 27 March 2012 saw the official launch of Crossroads ‘In Your Prime’ Project in their state of the art premises at 432 Upper Newtownards Road, Belfast. TV Presenter and journalist Lynda Bryans officially launched the project and highlighted the aims along with the project objectives.

The Big Lottery Fund Reaching Out: Connecting Older People programme will fund projects that enable older people at risk to lead full, connected lives as valued members of their communities. Applications are accepted until 2012 and there is £20m available.

The programme supports projects which:

  • focus on older people aged 60 and over
  • last from 3-5 years
  • target older people at greatest risk of exclusion and/or isolation
  • involve older people in designing and managing the project

In addition to funding, Big Lottery Fund put in place a development and support programme delivered by NICVA, to support and build the capacity of grantholders to ensure the effective delivery of their projects and their outcomes. NICVA has agreed to work in partnership with Stratagem and Stellar Leadership to deliver aspects of the contract.

Training schedule

If any training specific to the programme is scheduled, it will be visible in a list which appears above the group connections (to the right of your monitor). If none is visible, then nothing is scheduled in the immediate future.

This training is FUNDED under the Reaching Out:  Connecting Older People support and development programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund and delivered by NICVA. All courses will be held in NICVA unless otherwise stated.

These courses are only available for Board members, management, staff and volunteers of groups funded under the Reaching Out:  Connecting Older people programme.
