nicvanews November 2009

NICVA's monthly roundup of news, events, training and funding opportunities mailed to direct to NICVA members. Available online a month in arrears.

This month's round up

Consultations

As ever it's a busy month for the voluntary and community sector, with a couple of important consultations coming up including proposals for an Older People's Commissioner, an update to the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure, and proposals on the use of Dormant Account Funds. NICVA invites your comments on our draft responses to the Multiple
Deprivation Measure 2009 consultation and Dormant Accounts.

Training

We have another packed training section for you this month, especially in the areas of human resources and funding. If you missed out on Members Day you might well want to catch up with some best practice in equality at our Recruiting Fairly and Preventing Bullying and Harassment sessions in partnership with the Equality Commission. If your role has a training element, Train the trainers is a three day course to help you develop skills in delivering training
presentations.

Funding

Funding is on all our agendas and in the current economic climate, any tips and techniques to put us ahead of the competition to secure funds can only be welcome. With two training sessions on securing funds from grant-making trusts and Gift Aid, useful help is out there. The funding section also contains valuable tips for attracting donations and of course we have included a raft of funding deadlines to help you put your newly developed skills to the test.

Companies House

Finally just a reminder that Companies Registry in Belfast has now been incorporated into Companies House, which now regulates companies for the whole of the UK, so there will be new forms for things like annual returns etc. See page two for details.
