Voluntary Action and Community Relations in Northern Ireland
Research by the University of Ulster in 2007 found that over 90% of voluntary and community organisations provided opportunities for people to do things together and co-operate on common tasks.
In the final report, the authors say that the ability to build cross community coalitions appears to be one of the strengths of the sector in Northern Ireland.
However, in most cases this comes at a cost of failing to confront the implications of the cross-community nature of much of the sector’s work for the broader issue of sectarian divisions in society.
