Age related training courses with Advice NI

5 Feb 2013     Last updated: 9 Jul 2014

As part of our Reaching Out: Connecting Older People programme delivery, NICVA is pleased to let you know that Advice NI have recently expanded and improved their age related training courses to benefit those new to the training among others.

Previously the 'Advantage' Training Courses were offered at OCN Level 3 accreditation as a package of six courses, of which learners could choose as many as they wished or all six via face to face learning.

Advice NI is now offering training via a custom built and fully interactive e-learning experience  on the following modules:

  • Age Awareness and Working with Older People
  • An Introduction to Older People's Benefits
  • Understanding the State Retirement Pension

Learners can obtain accreditation at OCN Level 3 for each of these e-learning modules and will be able to learn in their own time rather than attend face to face training. Learners will also have access to a secure forum where they will be able to interact with their course tutor, obtain feedback and discuss the course content with other students.

Advice NI has also added further options to their face to face learning and can now offer Northern Ireland’s first and only Level 5 qualification on Age Issues.

Level 5 Award in Providing Advice to Older People

About the Award:

This Award is made up of the unit ‘Providing Specialist Advice to Older People on their Rights under the Law’.  It is a knowledge based unit worth 5 Credits at Level 5 on the Qualifications and Credit Framework. While the Award is a qualification in its own right, it can also be used towards a Level 4 Certificate or Level 4 Diploma in Providing Specialist Legal Advice, for those wishing to progress.

What the Course Covers:

The course has 6 learning outcomes:

  • Understand the legislative framework (in your country) relating to discrimination for goods, facilities, products and services on the grounds of age
  • Understand the legislative framework (in your country) relating to pensions and welfare benefits for older people

The content of the course is mapped to the Advice NI’s Advantage training programme. Learners who have previously completed Advantage training can use their work to receive Recognition of Prior Learning towards this award and where applicable build up modules to the full award.

And as always Advice NI's Award winning range of “Advantage Older Persons Adviser Courses” is still available via face to face learning and they offer six modules for learners to select from :

  • Age Awareness and Working with Older People
  • An Introduction to Older People's Benefits
  • Understanding the State Retirement Pension
