Another fine day for NICVA Training

22 Feb 2012     Last updated: 20 Jun 2014

NICVA’s Skills Development Unit held its annual Presentation of Certificates Ceremony on Tuesday 21 February to recognise the achievement of over 30 participants on its ILM accredited courses.  These courses ranged from Level 3 Diploma in First

What made this the quintessential training day was the link via Skype to Derry to hear Lord Mayor Devenney speak and present certificates to Destined members for completion of the ILM Level 3 Award in Effective Management.  Yet more recognition for the STAR Award winning programme designed by NICVA for people with learning disabilities.

Mayor Devenney congratulated the learners in Destined and spoke of his pride that people with learning disabilities had access to this kind and level of management training.  He said “what motivates me to get up in the morning is going to places like this (Destined), to meet groups like this, to see achievement like this”.

Speaking after the event about participating in the programme, Alicja Matwiejczuk from NICEM said "the first line management programme is the best training I have ever participated in. I am now more organised, and feel more confident and competent in my work role".

The guest speaker on the day was Seamus McALeavey, Chief Executive of NICVA, who spoke about the need for organisations to be thinking constantly about change.  He commented “think about it all the time, never think about doing the same things all the time, even if they are good".  He continued by quoting Professor Best that “unless we are constantly innovating and changing we are not going to be there very long”.

Seamus congratulated all the learners on their success and encouraged then to  “make yourself a thinker – apply the skills learned from these courses back into your workplaces”.
