COVID19: NICVA - Update Wednesday 25 March 2020

The DfC Minister has lead responsibility for Government Voluntary and Community Sector relations.

As reported the Minister has introduced funding flexibility in her Department to help funded organisations concentrate on delivering outcomes in response to the COVID-19 and has asked all her Executive Colleagues to respond in the same way.  I expect an announcement soon on Department of Health Core grants.

There is an Emergencies Liaison Group established between Government and our sector to help organise and coordinate all our efforts.  Local Government and key bodies like the Older People’s Commissioner, Children’s Commissioner and the National Lottery Community Fund are involved.  NICVA will lead on Communications and keep everyone informed on a two-way basis, up and down.  The Emergencies group will inform the Minister and Permanent Secretary who will engage with the NI Executive Civil Contingencies Group.

NICVA is also liaising with our Colleagues in our sister Council, NCVO who are lobbying the UK Government for an Emergency Fund to support charities whose income streams have stopped dead but the demand for their services and support is still there.

In response to my email updates many of you have raised issues and we have aggregated those and submitted to government.  We will keep you informed and engaged on a regular, if not daily basis.

Lastly, we are also planning to use our CommunityNI web site to let you upload the services and supports you can provide to people and help everyone connect to the available help.  More on that soon.

Stay safe everyone and follow the health advice
