Destined - you're a STAR

In recognition of recent successes, members of Destined - a support organisation for people with learning difficulties - attended a civic reception hosted by the Mayor of Derry, Mr Maurice Devenney on Tuesday 28 February.

In a relaxed atmosphere, Mayor Devenney gave a warm welcome to everyone and spoke of “the exceedingly good work to win the STAR Award in Dublin.”

The Mayor spoke about the negative image Derry gets, but the great work done by groups like Destined makes him especially proud of the city.  He finished by saying that “Destined should be proud of themselves.”

To thank them for contributing to Derry’s positive image, the Mayor presented each member with a gift. Daniel Donnelly of Destined presented a card to the Mayor thanking him for inviting them to the council offices.

Michael Cole, a long standing member of Destined and who is giving the Mayor a run for his money as his term is coming to an end, thanked the Mayor and Destined and said:

"The atmosphere in Destined is brilliant.  There are a lot of friendly people – well maybe not me – but I want to say to the group who went to Dublin congratulations on winning the award – we are all proud.”

NICVA is very proud to have contributed to Destined's success through the delivery of a bespoke BIG Lottery Funded, ILM accredited learning and development programme.
