Essentials of data protection seminar series

26 Mar 2013     Last updated: 9 Jul 2014

NICVA and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) have joined forces to provide a short series of free seminars on data protection for the voluntary and community sector.

Data protection is becoming an increasingly important issue for voluntary and community organisations as people become more aware of the need to handle information properly and the financial and reputational risks of getting it wrong.

Getting data protection right helps you to comply with the legislation but also offers you an opportunity to build trust with the people you work with and ensures that the information you hold is an asset, not a liability. If your organisation holds information on service users, volunteers or staff, takes photographs, shares information with other organisations, has people working from home, is involved with marketing or fundraising, then this series is for you.

This series of free seminars will help you ensure that your organisation gets it right and enable you to apply best practice. It will also give you an opportunity to ask all those burning data protection questions.

The series has three distinct seminars:

  1. Essentials of data protection: introduction to data protection – 17 April 2013, 5.30-8.00pm
  2. Essentials of data protection: fundraising and marketing – 17 May 2013, 10.00am-12.30pm
  3. Essentials of data protection: working in partnership/sharing information – 14 June 2013, 10.00am-12.30pm
