What motivated you to do the ILM level 5 Diploma in leadership and management?
I had been in my job for some time and wanted to do something for my professional development. I was managing staff and wanted to help my management practice. Here was a lot that I was aware of and the course was good as it explained why we do things and the best way.
What did you think of the course?
Everything I covered on the course was relevant to my job, in fact no matter what job you do it can be related. It covers every aspect needed for a leader and was understandable and the timeframe kept me motivated.
How have you applied your learning to your role?
Emotional intelligence in particular was very useful. I have used what I learnt to help manage my team. It has helped me to be more aware of my own and other’s emotions and how they impact on work. Also, problem solving and conflict management have given me tools and options for what to do to resolve issues.
I reflect more now on how I do things and think about the best way of dealing with issues. The action learning has helped with this and given me techniques that I use with my team.
How has the learning impacted on your organisation?
I have taken back my learning and discussed with other colleagues, sharing tips and techniques. We are introducing new ways of working in our organisation as a result of this and this will improve things and make it more efficient.
Treasa Rice, Brain Injury Matters
What motivated you to do the ILM level 5 Diploma in leadership and management?
I have been in the charity sector since 2006 and have moved my way up into a management role but had no professional qualification. The ILM level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management was a perfect fit for my needs.
What did you think of the course?
Roisin was brilliant, an excellent facilitator, approachable and made things easy online. I felt included and the breakout rooms were great for interaction.
How have you applied the learning to your role?
I learnt about myself and my leadership and learning styles. It has helped me reflect on my practice and improve. Emotional intelligence has prompted me to think about the culture and resilience in our organisation especially working from home and has provided me with tools and structures to do this.
Action learning is something I have brought back to the team and we plan to use it in our team meeting. I will provide training to the team on the powerful questioning techniques and I will facilitate the ALS.
I have reflected on my leadership styles and others in the organisation and now use different styles for different circumstances and different people.
How has the learning impacted on your organisation?
I have brought back my learning and shared it with my team. I have used the techniques and skills that I learnt. I am providing training to my team in action learning and we will use this in team meetings. We have monthly training on leadership and I have used the leadership questionnaires. The wider organisation has benefited greatly from the course as I have passed my learning on.
