A new capacity building accelerator programme, exclusively for recipients of the Department of Health's Cancer, Carers and Mental Health Funds, has been launched.

Funded by the Community Foundation NI through the Department of Health’s Cancer, Carers and Mental Health Funds, the Capacity Building Accelerator and Mentoring Programme will be delivered by the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action (NICVA).

Orla Black, the Grants Director for Community Foundation NI said

The Community Foundation is delighted to be working with NICVA to lead on the Capacity Building Accelerator and Mentoring programme for the grantees awarded funding through the Department of Health's Cancer Charities' Support Fund, the Mental Health Support Fund, and the Carers' Support Fund.  NICVA has many years’ experience in supporting the sector. We recognise the importance of offering opportunities for training and one to support with experienced mentors, particularly as we navigate the challenges within the sector and in society at this time. We know that this programme will offer a really valuable opportunity to network, learn and share best practice and we look forward to seeing progress in the coming months.”

Over the next two years the programme aims to engage with grant recipients to provide bespoke learning opportunities and mentoring support, as well as access to a range of practical and interactive workshops and events.

There was a large attendance at the on-line Launch Event on Tuesday 24 May 2022.  Watch a recording below (57 mins)

Una McKernan, NICVA’s Deputy CEO, said:

We are very pleased to be able to offer this bespoke programme of support and mentoring to the recipients of the Community Foundation’s Health Grants.  Capacity building invests in the development of an organisation and its staff and volunteers (including Boards and Committees), enabling them to be more confident and effective in delivering their overall services. The Capacity Building Accelerator and Mentoring programme is very timely and will offer bespoke interventions tailored to meet the individual needs of the organisations involved.  We aim to support and encourage them to be reflective and solution focussed, and we know from our experience that this can be transformative. Over the two years of this programme, they will become stronger, more effective organisations, with a range of improved skills and renewed confidence, which will enable them to deliver vital health services to their clients and communities.

What can organisations expect?

  • Bespoke capacity building and mentoring support.
  • Eight themed workshops and learning events per year of the programme.
  • Access to a range of Health Checks (e.g., Governance, Cyber Security).
  • Access to on-line learning resources via NICVA’s on-line training academy.

Who is eligible?

The Capacity Building Accelerator and Mentoring Programme is exclusively for recipients of the Community Foundation NI's Cancer, Carers' or Mental Health Funds.  For further information please contact Project Coordinator, Susan Glass [email protected]
